At this moment in history we are witnessing the power of nonviolence in countries around the world!

And in Memphis Tennessee, we are preparing with greater enthusiasm and energy than ever for our Seventh annual Gerard A. Vanderhaar Symposium which is March 15, 2012, at Christian Brothers University.

This year's keynote speaker is Dr. Ada Maria Isasi-Diaz, Professor Emerita of Christian Social Ethics and Theology, Drew University. She lectures throughout the country as well as internationally on issues of justice and Latina/o theology. Her talk is entitled:

"COMPASSION AND SOLIDARITY: STRUGGLING FOR JUSTICE, BUILDING PEACE"

Dr. Isasi-Diaz states that "reconciliation is the face of justice". She believes that "in order to enable reconciliatory practices we need to engender and strengthen compassion and create solidarity" between all peoples and levels of life. She co-authored the first Latina theology book published in the United States. A dynamic, faith-filled woman, we look forward to her inspiring presentation.

The very important $5,000 Gerard A. Vanderhaar Memorial Scholarship is offered each year to a student at Christian Brothers University in the Religion and Philosophy Department where Dr. Vanderhaar taught for 28 years.

The prestigious Vanderhaar Student Peace Award is given to an outstanding student from an area college/university who has done extraordinary work to advance the good of others in the area of peace and justice. They are an inspiration to all of us.

We could not do this without your generous support. The Vanderhaar Symposium has a far-reaching effect throughtout the area and indeed throughout the world. Please consider a gift of $1000, $500, $100 or $25. Your gift does make a difference! We are very grateful for all your support. Please click here to donate or mail your check to:

"We may not do great deeds, move mountains, or change the world, but the nonviolent way we meet the mulitple
challenges we confront every day can make a difference in our lives and the lives of those around us."
