Also material on the U.S. Bishops' peace pastoral and documentation of his interaction with Bishop Thomas Gumbleton and Bishop Carroll T. Dozier.

Background:

A leader in the peace movement; co-founder of the Mid-South Peace and Justice Center; professor of religion and peace studies at Christian Brothers University in Memphis; author of Christians and Nonviolence in the Nuclear Age (1982), Nonviolence in Christian Tradition (1983), Enemies and How to Love Them (1985), Nonviolence: Theory and Practice (1985), Gerard Vanderhaar on Peronal Nonviolence (1989), The Philippines: Agony and Hope (1989), Active Nonviolence: A Way of Personal Peace (1990), Why Good People Do Bad Things (1994), and Beyond Violence: in the Spirit of the Non-violent Christ (1998). Born in 1931, he died 21 June 2005.
